4 Easy Ways to Support World AIDS Day
Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Rockville, Maryland — Worlds AIDS Day is Sunday, December 1. This year’s  World AIDS Day theme, “Shared Responsibility: Strengthening Results for an AIDS-Free Generation,” reminds us that everyone can help end stigma and stop the spread of HIV. Here are a few ways you can to join in:

1. Learn and share the facts about HIV/AIDS

Today, most people know that HIV and AIDS exist, but how much do you really know about how this disease affects the human body and the community?

Test your knowledge using  Are You HIV Aware? Or visit  AIDS.gov, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for information on prevention, testing, and health.

2. Get tested and encourage others to get tested.

Do you know your HIV status? Many doctors recommend yearly testing. Find testing locations near you at http://hivtest.cdc.gov/ or text your zip code to (566948).

3. Make a donation.

Lots of great organizations out there are working to end HIV-related stigma and stop its spread. View About.com’s Top 20 HIV/AIDS Charities for a list of places to which you can give.

4. Stay in touch with new ways to create change.

There are many ways to get involved in creating change related to HIV/AIDS. Check out  Facing AIDS or World AIDS day events to learn about new ways to take action.

“Don’t just let this year’s World AIDS Day pass,” says BLH President and CEO, Benjamin L. Harris. “Do something on this list—no matter how small—to help fight disease and create change.”
